We listen, act, and transform
I am an educator that has been in the business of helping people for over 21 years. To begin my career in education, I started as a 5th and 7th grade Math teacher, after 8 years as a school teacher, I transitioned to a school counselor for 7 years, where I gained knowledge in adolescent growth, trauma informed care, and worked with many parents and families. Following this opportunity, I transitioned into being an assistant principal which afforded me the ability to have more of an impact on a greater audience. Although my title is no longer a school counselor, I have continued with my skills as a counselor in my current role. My background in counseling has helped me tremendously as an Assistant Principal.
I was the first in my family to graduate from college 21 years ago and I have set a precedent for my siblings, nieces, and cousins. Through my successes they have seen me have opportunities that were not a trend in our family growing up. Growing up with a family that had mental health issues, it taught me that even though families have baggage and come from tough upbringings your story does not have to fall prey to the same.
I grew up in a broken household where I was raised by a single mother. The research would say that compared to kids from two-parent families, children with single parent households typically tend to get lower grades, suffer from absenteeism, and have more problems relating to peers and teachers. A mission of mine is to be aware of this and to combat it! Connection is the key!
If any of this is or isn’t your story, I am here to assist and help you where you are.
